# Quickstart

> Make your first call to the Groovin API in a few minutes, without changing anything.

This first call only reads your data. It changes nothing and uses none of your LinkedIn limits.

**1. Create an API key**

Open the Groovin extension, then **Settings → MCP and API**, and click **Create key**.

Copy the key now: it starts with `gv_live_` and is shown only once. Treat it like a password.

**2. List your last 5 conversations**

Paste this in a terminal, with your key in place of `YOUR_API_KEY`:

```bash theme={null}
curl --request POST \
  --url https://api.groovin.ai/functions/v1/api/v1/linkedin/conversation-attendees \
  --header 'Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY' \
  --header 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data '{ "limit": 5 }'
```

**3. Read the answer**

You get the people from your 5 most recent conversations:

```json theme={null}
{
  "org_linkedin_account_id": 4821,
  "total": 214,
  "returned": 5,
  "truncated": true,
  "attendees": [
    {
      "linkedin_profile_id": "ACoAA…",
      "name": "John Smith",
      "headline": "Founder at Example Co",
      "already_paired_in_groovin": true,
      "last_message_at": "2026-11-02T08:41:00.000Z",
      "unread_count": 1,
      "conversation_id": "…"
    }
  ]
}
```

`conversation_id` lets you [read that conversation](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/get-chat-messages.md).

If you get an error, see [Errors](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/errors.md).

## Or ask your AI assistant

Paste this into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor:

```text theme={null}
Read https://docs.groovin.ai/llms.txt, then write a small script that lists my
5 most recent LinkedIn conversations with the Groovin API. Read my API key from
the GROOVIN_API_KEY environment variable and never print it. Only use read-only
routes. Before using any route that writes, stop and ask me.
```

Keep your API key out of the conversation: put it in an environment variable, and do not paste it into a chat.

## Trying things on these pages

Each endpoint page has a **Try it** button that calls the real API with your key.

> [!CAUTION]
>
> **Send** really does what the page says. On a page marked in red, it can send a real LinkedIn message or write to your CRM. Read the alert at the top of the page first.

* Create a separate key for your experiments, and revoke it afterwards.
* Your requests go straight from your browser to Groovin.
* On a page that writes, sending the form empty is refused and nothing happens. As soon as you fill it in, the call is real.

## Good habits from day one

> [!TIP]
>
> **Read before you write.** Start with the routes marked Info, then move on to the others once you have seen the answers.

* Before running a script an AI wrote, read it, especially if it loops over several people.
* Send messages and invitations one at a time, after checking them. Sending in bulk can get your LinkedIn account restricted.
* Never retry a failed send without checking first: [the message may already be gone](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/errors.md#a-send-failed).
