# Long lists

> How to get through long lists: there are three different ways, depending on the route.

## Conversations: use the cursor

[Read a conversation](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/get-chat-messages.md) returns up to 100 messages, or as many as `limit` asks, up to 250. To get older messages, send back the `cursor` from the previous answer. A `null` cursor means you reached the end.

## Import rows: use the offset

[Check a connections import](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/get-connections-import.md) returns 25 rows by default, 100 at most. To get the next page, increase `offset`. `rows_truncated` tells you when more rows are left.

## Other lists: use the limit

These routes have no next page. `limit` keeps the first results, and you cannot ask for the following ones:

* [The conversation list](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/list-conversation-attendees.md)
* [Your connections](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/list-relations.md)
* [Your pending invitations](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/list-pending-invitations.md)
* [Your synced contacts](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/list-synced-contacts.md)

Their answers tell you how complete they are:

| Field | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `total` or `total_matched` | Matching items, before `limit` |
| `returned` | Items in this answer |
| `truncated` | `true` when some were left out |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Without `limit`, you get everything. On your connections, that means reading your whole network from LinkedIn.

On your connections, `total_matched` only counts what was read. When `truncated` is `true`, the real total can be higher.

To get what is new since your last read, use `connected_after` rather than going through the whole list.
