# Limits and quotas

> What protects your LinkedIn account, what Groovin enforces, and what is up to you.

> [!CAUTION]
>
> **Going over LinkedIn's limits can get your LinkedIn account restricted.** Groovin does not count your daily messages, invitations or profile views for you. Staying within them is up to you, and to the scripts you run.

## How it works

* **Limits belong to your LinkedIn account.** The API, the MCP, the extension and LinkedIn itself all use the same allowance. Two scripts on the same account share it.
* **LinkedIn watches patterns, not only totals.** Regular, machine-like timing is flagged as automation.
* **Writing is riskier than reading.** Invitations are the most restricted action.

## LinkedIn's limits: guidance, not enforced

These are guidelines for an active account. Groovin does not stop you when you go over them, and LinkedIn can apply stricter limits at any time.

| Action | Stay around |
| - | - |
| [Send an invitation](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/send-invitation.md) | 80 to 100 a day, 200 a week |
| [Send a message](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/send-message.md) | 100 a day |
| [Read a profile](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/get-profile.md) | 100 a day |
| [Mark a conversation as read](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/set-chat-read-status.md) | 100 a day |
| [List connections](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/list-relations.md) | A few times a day, newest page only |
| [List pending invitations](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/list-pending-invitations.md) | A few times a day |

**Free of LinkedIn limits:** [the conversation list](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/list-conversation-attendees.md) and [reading a conversation](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/get-chat-messages.md), which use Groovin's copy of your inbox, and [the connections import](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/start-connections-import.md), which only reads your file.

## How to stay safe

* **Go slowly with a new account.** Start with small numbers, and increase them gradually.
* **Space your calls out, at random intervals.** Never use a fixed schedule, such as every hour on the hour.
* **Spread your activity** over the working day rather than sending everything at once.
* **Stop on a 429.** Wait at least 5 minutes before trying again, and do not loop on it.
* **Use [webhooks](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/webhooks/overview.md) rather than checking every few minutes.** To follow new messages and connections, let Groovin tell you.
* **Check before you repeat.** A send that seemed to fail may have gone out. See [Errors](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/errors.md#a-send-failed).

## What Groovin enforces

These limits are enforced by Groovin: going over them gets you an error, or a partial answer.

| Route | Limit |
| - | - |
| Message | 8,000 characters, one recipient per call |
| Invitation note | 300 characters, one recipient per call |
| [Check who is in your CRM](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/lookup-contacts.md) | 10,000 people per call. Live search: 500 on Attio, 250 on HubSpot |
| [Create contacts](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/create-contacts.md) | 25 per call |
| [Message sync](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/toggle-sync.md) | On: 25 contacts per call. Off: 200. Up to 25 LinkedIn URLs and 10 live lookups per call |
| [Find LinkedIn URLs](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/find-linkedin-urls.md) | 25 contacts per call, one batch at a time |
| [Find company domains](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/find-company-domains.md) | 25 companies per call |
| [Connections import](https://docs.groovin.ai/reference/api/start-connections-import.md) | 10 MB and 30,000 rows per file. Row details are kept for 72 hours at most: downloading the result deletes them sooner |

The LinkedIn URL finder also has its own daily limit on LinkedIn searches, of 25, 35 or 50 a day depending on your LinkedIn plan.

The API has no rate limit of its own, and sends no rate-limit headers. A 429 comes from LinkedIn or from your CRM.

## Credits

| Credit | Spent on | You get |
| - | - | - |
| LinkedIn URL | Each URL found | 500 a month. Unused credits carry over |
| Company domain | Each domain delivered | 200 on trial, plus 2,000 on a paid plan. They do not refill |
| Email | Each email found on a new Attio contact | 150 a month. Unused credits carry over |

Results that find nothing, such as `not_found` or `ambiguous`, cost nothing.

## Your CRM's limits

Your CRM has its own API limits. When it slows Groovin down, you get a 429 or a `rate_limited` flag. Some CRMs also have a monthly quota: when it is used up, the error says so, and retrying will not help until it resets.
